Аннотация

Translation in security contexts is a highly sensitive and multi-layered task that demands precision, cultural perception, and firm political neutrality. In increasingly multicultural and politically active environments, linguistic and cultural factors deeply influence the effectiveness of translations used inlaw enforcement, intelligence operations, border control, and judicial proceedings. This paper explores how local dialects, specialized jargon, and broader linguistic diversity impact translation accurateness within security-sensitive areas and proposes strategies to moderate risks ofmisinterpretation and operational failure. Drawing on empirical case studies from conflict zones in West Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, the analysis reveals that misinterpretations arising from regional dialects, colloquial slang, and technical terminology can precipitate severe operational setbacks, erode public trust, and compromise security outcomes. The study advocates a hybrid approach that combines the nuanced understanding of human expertise with the speed and scalability of AI-driven translation tools. Machine learning models, trained on security-specific datasets, offer real-time assistance; however, their outputs must be rigorously cross-verified by experienced translators to ensure contextual and cultural accuracy. Moreover, the paper emphasizes the importance of ethical oversight and strict procedural protocols to safeguard classified information and prevent bias. Dynamic localization strategies, coupled with ethnographic research and community-based co-creation of security lexicons, are shown to enhance both linguistic precision and cultural sensitivity. Interdisciplinary collaboration among native linguists, sociolinguists, security professionals, and academic researchers is identified as essential for developing standardized, context-aware translation frameworks that bridge linguisticgaps in high-stakes environments. Ultimately, this research contributes to interdisciplinary dialogues in translation studies, security policy, and sociolinguistics by offering actionable insights and best practices for practitioners operating in multilingual, security-sensitive situations. The integration of cutting-edge technology with demanding human oversight is presented as a critical pathway to strengthening national security, legal justice, and effective lawenforcement procedures. However, linguistic diversity, encompassing dialectal variations, sociolects, and domain-specific jargon, introduces significant complexities that risk distorting meaning, biasing perceptions, and undermining security outcomes (Baker, 2018). For instance, regional dialects such as Nigerian Pidgin or Andalusian Spanish often encode cultural contexts that are inseparable from their lexical forms, creating pitfalls for literal translations (Nakane, 2014). The role of translators in security contexts transcends mere linguistic conversion; it requires navigating intertwined cultural, political, and legal frameworks that shape the interpretation of sensitive information (Tipton &Furmanek, 2016). Amistranslation ofdialect-specific slang (e.g., “kali” in Philippine Tagalog, meaning both “sharp” and “violent”) or technical jargon (e.g., “zero-day exploit” in cybersecurity) can lead to flawed intelligence, operational missteps, or wrongful prosecutions (Giambruno, 2014). Such errors are exacerbated in legal settings, where dialectal nuances in witness testimonies or asylum interviews may inadvertently alter judicial outcomes (Pokorn et al., 2020). For example, Nakane (2014) demonstrated how Japanese dialects inpolice interrogations led to misinterpretations of suspect intent, highlighting the stakes oflinguisticprecision. The growing reliance on multilingual data in security sectors—from Europol’s cross-border crime databases to INTERPOL’s counter-terrorism bulletins—has intensified calls for specialized translator training that integrates criminological, sociolinguistic, and technological competencies (Federici & O’Brien, 2019). Recent studies emphasize that translators must act as “cultural mediato
