INTRODUCTION: The teaching of English as a foreign language has evolved significantly over the past century. As globalization continues to shrink the world, English has emerged as the lingua franca in business, academia, and international communication. Consequently, the demand for effective and engaging teaching methodologies has grown. A teaching methodology encompasses the strategies, techniques, and theoretical principles that guide instruction in the classroom. Choosing the right method can greatly influence student motivation, participation, and ultimately, language proficiency. METHODS FOR TEACHING ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE. 1. Grammar-Translation Method This traditional approach emphasizes the translation of literary texts and the explicit teaching of grammar rules. While it offers a solid grammatical foundation and enhances reading and writing skills, it neglects speaking and listening, making it less suitable for communicative competence. 2. Direct Method The Direct Method promotes the exclusive use of the target language, encouraging thinking and communication in English. Modern/Interactive Approaches Contemporary classrooms increasingly integrate technology and interactive tools. Language learning apps, online games, and blended learning models engage digital-native students and allow personalized learning paths. These methods enhance motivation and adapt to vari CONCLUSION: There is no universal best method for teaching English as a foreign language. Each approach has its strengths and limitations. Effective teaching often involves blending multiple methodologies to address the diverse needs of learners. The most successful educators remain flexible, student-centered, and open to incorporating innovative practices. As the global demand for English proficiency grows, so too must our ability to teach it effectively, creatively, and inclusively.
