Аннотация

Biopharmaceuticals represent a groundbreaking advancement in modern medicine, offering innovative treatment options for chronic and life-threatening diseases. Derived from living organisms, these drugs include monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, and gene therapies. This paper explores the significance, development, and impact of biopharmaceuticals within the pharmaceutical industry, focusing on their advantages over traditional drugs, current challenges, and futureprospects. Keywords: Biopharmaceuticals, biotechnology, monoclonal antibodies, gene therapy, recombinant proteins, pharmacy innovation, next-generation drugs Introduction: The advent of biopharmaceuticals has revolutionized the field of pharmacy and modern medicine by introducing highly targeted, effective, and innovative treatments for a range of complex diseases. Unlike conventional small-molecule drugs that are chemically synthesized, biopharmaceuticals—often referred to as biologics—are derived from living cells through sophisticated biotechnological processes. These include recombinant proteins, monoclonal antibodies, nucleic acid-based therapies (such as gene therapy and mRNA treatments), and cell- based therapies. Pharmacists and healthcare professionals are witnessing a paradigm shift from symptom-focused treatments toward precision medicine, where therapies are designed to interact with specific biological targets. This evolution is particularly significant in the treatment of chronic, autoimmune, oncological, and rare genetic disorders, where conventional drugs have often fallen short in terms of efficacy and safety. For example, monoclonal antibodies like pembrolizumab (used in immunotherapy) and genetherapies such as Zolgensma (used inspinal muscular atrophy) represent a new class of therapeutics that offer hope where little existed before. The integration of biopharmaceuticals into everyday pharmacy practice has brought with it a range of opportunities and challenges. While these therapies have demonstrated superior clinical outcomes in many cases, they also present hurdles such as high production costs, limited accessibility, cold chain storage requirements, and regulatory complexities. Additionally, the need for specialized knowledge and infrastructure in pharmacies and hospitals underscores the importance ofongoing education and system adaptation. As the global demand for advanced therapeutic solutions continues to rise, the role of biopharmaceuticals is becoming increasingly central to pharmaceutical innovation. This paper explores the development, application, and impact of biopharmaceuticals, focusing on how they are shaping the future of pharmacy. It also discusses current trends, barriers to widespread use, and potential solutions, includingtherise ofbiosimilars and technological innovations. Literature review The development and integration of biopharmaceuticals into pharmacy practice have been widely explored in recent literature. These innovative drugs, derived from living organisms, continue to change the therapeutic landscape, especially in treating chronic and life-threatening www.wordlyknowledge.uz ILMIYMETODIK JURNAL JOURNAL OFIQRO –ЖУРНАЛ ИҚРО –IQRO JURNALI –volume 15,issue01,2025 ISSN:2181-4341, IMPACT FACTOR( RESEARCH BIB )–7,245,SJIF–5,431 conditions. Biopharmaceuticals encompass a range of products including monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, gene therapies, and nucleic acid-based drugs. Liew et al. (2023) explain the complexity of developing these therapeutics, noting that their production often involves sophisticated biotechnology tools such as recombinant DNA technology and mammalian cell cultures [1]. The authors highlight the importance of maintaining purity, efficacy, and biological activity throughout themanufacturing process. According to a comprehensive review of U.S. FDA data, out of the 55 new molecular entities approved in 2023, 47 were targeted therapies—mainly monoclonal antibodies and nucleic acid drugs [2]. This trend highlights the increasing importance of biologics in precision medicine. Targeted therapies are often designed to bind specific cellular receptors or influence gene expression, resulting in improved treatment outcomes and fewer side effects compared to traditional drugs. Biopharmaceuticals often face formulation hurdles due to their complex molecular structures. Kamal et al. (2024) identified several challenges including protein aggregation, immunogenicity, and the need for cold chain logistics [3]. To overcome these limitations, researchers are exploring novel delivery mechanisms such as nanoparticle carriers, liposomes, and microneedlepatches. Despite their therapeutic potential, the high cost of biopharmaceuticals remains a majorbarrier to global access. Verma and Yadav (2023) argue that the regulatory environment plays a significant role in pricing and availability, as biologics require stringent testing and quality controls [4]. They advocate for the developmen
