this article considers the issue of improving the mechanism for assessing the effectiveness of management activities of heads of higher 21 SCIENCE AND INNOVATION IN THE EDUCATION SYSTEM International scientific-online conference educational institutions. Within the framework of the study, existing assessment methods in the higher education system were studied, their shortcomings were identified, and improvement directions were proposed. According to the results of the study, approaches such as more accurate determination of assessment criteria, use of digital technologies, accounting for international experience serve to further increase the effectiveness of the activities of leaders.
