In this article the stages of formation and development of the essay genre, qualitative changes over the years of independence, its terms as a genre based on the historical and biographical approach of literary criticism, as well as theoretical conclusions about the image of a creative figure in the essay, the meaning of the personality image and worldview of the writer (paragraph 1 in the editorial office are analyzed.
