in English. Today, the majority of the world’s population lives in cities. Ensuring environmental sustainability in populated areas is critical to achieving the goals set out in the United Nations Sustainable Development Program. In addition, the rules set out in the new UN Urban Development Program (Habitat III) will play a key role in ensuring the sustainable development of cities. Given that the world's population lives mainly in anthropogenically changing regions, more precisely in populated areas, ensuring a comfortable environment for citizens is achieved through sustainable urban development. That is why today the work on greening of cities is given importance at the local, regional and even global levels. The participation of civil society institutions and the general public in this process takes several forms.
