Аннотация

— The selection of image tools with a communicative function in translation is a crucial aspect of effective cross-cultural communication. Images possess the power to transcend language barriers, enhance comprehension, and evoke emotions, making them invaluable assets in the translation process. This article explores the multifaceted considerations involved in choosing appropriate images for translation, emphasizing the importance of understanding the target audience, context, message, and cultural nuances. By carefully selecting and integrating images, translators can bridge cultural gaps, create engaging experiences, and ensure the intended message resonates with the audience on a deeper level. Keywords — image selection, translation, communicative function, visual communication, cross-cultural communication, comprehension, cultural sensitivity, context, message, image tools, image search optimization. 1. INTRODUCTION Translation is a process of transferring a message from a source language into a target language. The transfer of the message is not only limited to word-by-word translation, but also involves conveying cultural contexts and assumptions. These days, the field of translation is growing rapidly because of the increase in the number of users who do not understand English as a source language. Therefore, the translation of existing information from the web or any form of written text becomes essential to enable the user to understand a message in a source language. When translating the existing information from the web, translated words are not enough to enable a perfect understanding of a message. Pictures or images play a very important communicative function in translating the information. A translator may find it very confusing when translating a message that comes with a particular context of an image. 2. MAIN PART In today's globalized world, the ability to effectively communicate across linguistic and cultural barriers is more important than ever. Translation plays a crucial role in bridging these gaps, and the strategic use of images can significantly enhance the communicative power of translated content. The understanding of image communication is significant, with the increasing number of companies using the web, together with traditional advertising mediums. It involves strategic contours and proofreading to ensure the target audience can understand the intended message. This is where translation comes into play. A translator needs not simply to transcribe letters into the target language but to reconstruct the source language image and text, taking into account the differences in how culture encodes messages. Failure to do so could have effects ranging from the awkward to the catastrophic. For instance, in 1982, a chicken manufacturer carried its slogan “It takes a tough man to make a tender chicken” into a Spanish-speaking market where it was translated as “It takes a hard man to make a chicken aroused”. Due to the difficulties in image translation, many localizers will choose to merely translate textual elements. However, the demands from clients have made this option less viable in many markets. With the low price of digital cameras and wide availability of screenshots in video games, there has also been an increase in requests for image translation. Images play an important role in translation because they often clarify and expand the intended message. According to Newmark, “there is a connection between language and other semiotic systems, and one of the translator's problems is to decide whether a message in the source language can be best conveyed by a graphical representation, sound, odor, taste or texture in the receptor language”. Newmark points out that translating a word or phrase sometimes creates a mental image that may be completely unrelated to the source language message. Results. If the image is a dissonant one, the translator may have to choose the communicative function of the receptor language image that coincides most closely with the source language image. This issue is particularly relevant with idiomatic language. To look at anything with a fine tooth comb or rake someone over the coals would create ridiculous or incomprehensible images if translated directly into a non-source language.
