Аннотация

A Window on Literature is a collection of authentic literary texts designed to be used with teenage and adult learners of English at the early to mid-intermediate level. The texts in the book were chosen not only for their relative linguistic simplicity, but also because they embody themes that should appeal to students from different cultures around the world. The range of texts reflects the rich variety of writing throughout the English-speaking world, both in terms of author and genre. The collection includes poems, extracts from plays, short stories and novels, and one complete short story (Janet Frame’s The Birds Began to Sing). A Window on Literature consists oftwelve units, each based on a different theme. Some ofthe units include only one literary text, others include two texts linked together by the common theme. There is no specific grading or progression throughout the book, so teachers are free to choose the order in which they use the units.
