Central Asia and the Caucasus are considered by many to be the next oil and gas frontier. The region’s sizable energy reserves, combined with its unique political status as eight newly independent states emerging from the break-up of the former Soviet Union, have catapulted these countries into the limelight of Western media and policy-debate.
