Investigation of the degreasing process when processing ostrich skins

In this study, the effect of the defatting process on the properties of a tanned semifinished ostrich product was studied. In order to reduce the negative impact of wastewater from the tanning industry on the environment, a surfactant (surfactant) was used that meets the requirements of the European REACH regulation. By determining the residual amount of natural fat during the defatting process, the dependence of the defatting effect on the chemical materials used was established. The chemical properties of a tanned semi-finished product processed by various tanning methods have been determined. The methods of analysis of the International Union of Leatherworkers and Chemists (IULC) were used to determine the fat content in the skin of an ostrich before and after the degreasing process and to study the physicochemical properties of the tanned semi-finished product. The results of the studies have shown that the obtained tanned semi- finished products can be used to obtain various types of exotic leather from the skin of an ostrich.
