This book tells the story of how the idea of an automated factory first emerged, and how it was translated into reality. The first part of the story, told in the first two chapters, covers the start of the project in the early 1980s. It deals with the initiation of strategic change up to the point where the company board of directors approved the expenditure for the new project. The second part of the story, told in Chapters 3, 4, 6 and the first part of 8, covers the mid-1980s.
