Two pedagogical principles were continuously pursued in the writing of this text. The first is the need to demonstrate how useful statistics can be in finding solutions to the many common problems in actual business situations. The text emphasizes that in today's competitive business world, it is no longer possible to make decisions on the basis of mere conjecture or what has worked in the past. Instead, it is only after deliberate consideration and scientific inquiry that well-informed and intelligent decisions can be realized.
