Guilt is one of the most complex and controversial emotional states. It can function as a helpful mechanism for moral self-regulation, but also act as a destructive force affecting mental well-being. This article examines both the constructive and harmful aspects of guilt, its development at different life stages, and approaches to understanding and coping with it.
