Within any language, phrases play a crucial role as semantic units that go beyond the simple sum 252 SCIENCE SHINE INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC JOURNAL Issue 13(48), Volume 1 | ISSN 3030-377X | 5.06.2025 of their individual words. Phrases encapsulate meanings, emotions, cultural values, and historical experiences, making them indispensable tools for effective and nuanced communication. In the context of the Uzbek language, phrases—particularly idiomatic and phraseological expressions—carry a rich semantic load that reflects the unique worldview, traditions, and linguistic creativity of the Uzbek-speaking community. The study of phrases and their semantic features in Uzbek is essential for several reasons. First, phrases often embody figurative meanings that cannot be deduced directly from the meanings of the component words. This semantic complexity presents both challenges and opportunities for linguists, translators, language learners, and educators. Understanding the semantic properties of Uzbek phrases allows for more accurate interpretation, translation, and teaching of the language. Third, semantic features such as polysemy, metaphorical meaning, and contextual variability make Uzbek phrases a fascinating subject for linguistic analysis. Polysemy—the coexistence of multiple related meanings—enables phrases to adapt flexibly to different communicative contexts. Similarly, metaphoric expressions enrich the language by allowing abstract or complex ideas to be conveyed through vivid imagery. This dynamic semantic behavior requires careful study to grasp how meaning shifts depending on usage, register, and speaker intention. This paper aims to explore the semantic characteristics of Uzbek phrases by examining their structure, figurative meanings, polysemy, and contextual functions. It will analyze various types of phrases, with a focus on phraseological units, to uncover how their meanings are constructed and how they function in different communicative situations. Through this study, the paper seeks to contribute to the broader understanding of Uzbek linguistics and offer practical insights for language teaching, translation, and cultural studies. Language serves as a mirror to the collective experience, values, and worldview of a people. It is through language that societies express their cultural heritage, social norms, and historical consciousness. Among the many components of language, phrases and idiomatic expressions hold a unique position because they encapsulate meaning that transcends the literal definitions of individual words. In the Uzbek language, phrases (iboralar) function not only as fundamental units of communication but also as vessels of the nation’s cultural identity and semantic richness. The significance of studying phrases in Uzbek lies in their semantic complexity. Unlike isolated words, phrases often convey meanings that are figurative, 253 SCIENCE SHINE INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC JOURNAL Issue 13(48), Volume 1 | ISSN 3030-377X | 5.06.2025 metaphorical, or idiomatic. Such meanings may be deeply embedded in the socio- cultural context and are sometimes inaccessible to those unfamiliar with the cultural background. For instance, many Uzbek idioms reflect traditional values such as hospitality, respect for elders, or communal harmony. These expressions often rely on imagery drawn from daily life, nature, and historical events, making their semantics layered and nuanced. A key aspect of Uzbek phraseology is polysemy, where a single phrase can have multiple, related meanings depending on context. This semantic flexibility allows speakers to employ phrases creatively, tailoring meanings to specific communicative situations. Moreover, semantic shifts and variations emerge over time as phrases adapt to new realities, technologies, and cultural influences. Unde
