Аннотация
This paper explores the challenges and potential solutions in optimizing the storage and transportation systems for fruit and vegetable products. Due to the high perishability of such products, ensuring adequate conditions throughout the supply chain is vital. The study highlights the issues of product spoilage, logistical inefficiencies, infrastructure deficits, and high operational costs. To address these, the paper suggests implementing modern storage technologies, smart packaging. The optimization of the storage and transportation system for fruit and vegetable products is a critical component of the modern agro-industrial complex. As global demand for fresh produce continues to rise, the need to ensure product freshness, minimize losses, and maintain quality throughout the supply chain becomes increasingly vital. These products are highly perishable, sensitive to environmental factors, and require specialized handling conditions from harvest through to final delivery. Any deviation from optimal conditions— such as inappropriate temperature, humidity, packaging, or transportation—can result in product spoilage, increased costs, and reduced competitiveness of producers in both domestic and international markets. One of the major issues is product spoilage during transit and storage, particularly when logistical systems are outdated or lack proper cold chain infrastructure. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), 20 to 30 percent of global fruit and vegetable harvests are lost each year due to improper post-harvest handling. In developing countries, these losses may reach up to 50 percent. Moreover, logistics costs in the fruit and vegetable sector remain significantly high, ranging from 25 to 50 percent of the total cost due to the need for refrigerated transport and storage. These challenges are exacerbated by seasonal fluctuations that cause supply surpluses and market saturation, especially during harvest peaks. In regions like Central Asia, up to 35 percent of seasonal vegetable production is lost due to insufficient storage facilities and distribution inefficiencies. 180 ACADEMIC RESEARCH IN MODERN SCIENCE International scientific-online conference Addressing these challenges requires an integrated approach combining advanced technologies, efficient logistics planning, and targeted investment in infrastructure. The implementation of modern storage systems with controlled atmosphere technologies (CA), capable of regulating oxygen, carbon dioxide, and humidity levels, can extend the shelf life of fresh produce two to three times and reduce losses by 10 to 15 percent. Innovative packaging materials and techniques help preserve freshness, prevent mechanical damage, and reduce the risk of contamination during transit. The use of refrigerated trucks, containers, and temperature-controlled warehouses ensures that produce is transported under consistent and optimal conditions. Equally important is the application of intelligent logistics management systems. Digital tools for logistics planning, route optimization, and real-time monitoring significantly reduce transportation times and operational inefficiencies. These systems can also support predictive analytics to align supply with market demand, enabling producers and distributors to better manage inventory and avoid oversupply or underdelivery. Furthermore, the development of regional storage hubs and investment in cold chain infrastructure can enhance the resilience of fruit and vegetable supply chains and reduce the vulnerability of producers to post-harvest losses. In conclusion, the optimization of fruit and vegetable storage and transportation systems plays a pivotal role in ensuring food quality, safety, and economic sustainability. By leveraging modern technologies, upgrading infrastructure, and adopting intelligent logistics strategies, agribusiness enterprises can reduce losses, cut operational costs, and meet the growing consumer demand for fresh, high-quality produce. These efforts will not only enhance profitability but also strengthen food security and support the long- term competitiveness of the agricultural sector in global markets.
