This study explores the fascinating world of folk healing through a comparative socio- linguistic lens, focusing specifically on the derivation of terms associated with its ritual and spiritual dimensions. Folk healing, deeply embedded in cultural traditions, often employs a unique lexicon that reflects indigenous beliefs, historical influences, and the interplay between language and healing practices. By analyzing lexical units in various languages, particularly English and Uzbek, this research aims to uncover the etymological roots, semantic shifts, and derivational processes that have shaped the terminology surrounding ritualistic actions, spiritual beliefs, and the roles of healers. The study highlights how linguistic evolution mirrors the changing understanding and practice offolk medicine, emphasizingthe interconnectedness of language, culture, and health. Keywords: Folk healing, socio-linguistics, etymology, lexical derivation, ritual, spiritual aspects, comparative study, English, Uzbek. Introduction Folk healing, as a traditional form of medicine, encompasses a wide array of practices that often integrate physical remedies with spiritual beliefs and elaborate rituals. Understanding the linguistic landscape of these practices is crucial for appreciating their cultural significance and historical development. The language used in folk healing is not merely descriptive; it is performative, imbued with meaning that transcends literal interpretation and often carries a strong connection to ancestral knowledge and cosmological views. This study delves into the derivation of terms related to the ritual and spiritual aspects of folk healing, seeking to understand how these terms are formed, how their meanings evolve, and what insights they offer into the underlying cultural frameworks. A comparative socio-linguistic approach, specifically examining English and Uzbek, allows for a broader perspective on commonalities and divergences in how different linguistic communities conceptualize and articulate these healing traditions. As Khujakulov (2025a) notes, the etymology of lexical units related to folk medicine can reveal deep insights into historical andcultural contexts. Main Part The linguistic analysis of folk healing terminology reveals a rich tapestry of derivational processes, including affixation, compounding, and semantic extension, often influenced by religious, magical, and historical factors. Many terms associated with rituals, for instance, may stem from ancient verbs describing actions, which then evolve into nouns denoting the ritual itself or its practitioners. For example, the terms for "incantation" or "blessing" in various languages often have roots in words signifying "to speak" or "to invoke," highlighting the power attributed to spoken words in healing contexts. The study of euphemisms, as explored by Akhmedova (2024), also sheds light on worldlyjournals.com ILMIY TADQIQOTLAR VA ULARNING YECHIMLARI JURNALI JOURNAL OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND THEIR SOLUTIONS VOLUME 5, ISSUE 02, IYUN 2025 WORLDLY KNOWLEDGE NASHRIYOTI how sensitive or taboo aspects of healing might be expressed indirectly, reflecting cultural norms and beliefs surrounding illness and cure. The spiritual dimension of folk healing is particularly rich in unique lexical formations. Terms referring to spirits, deities, or ancestral forces, which are often invoked in healing rituals, frequently have ancient or mythological origins. Their derivation can provide clues about the spiritual cosmologies underpinning these healing systems. For instance, words for"spirit doctor" or "shaman" often combine elements referring to spiritual perception or communion, indicating the perceived ability of these healers to interact with the unseen world. Khujakulov (2025c) emphasizes the significance of such lexical units in Turkic languages for understanding the historical and cultural underpinnings offolk medicine. A comparative analysis between English and Uzbek reveals both universal tendencies in lexical derivation and culture-specific innovations. While both languages might employ similar derivational strategies like noun-verb conversion or the use of prefixes and suffixes, the specific semantic content of these derivations will naturally reflect the distinct cultural and historical experiences of their respective speakers. For example, terms related to "evil eye" or "curse" might have distinct etymological pathways in each language, but their underlying conceptual framework of external malevolent forces impacting health remains a shared human concern. Khujakulov (2025b) specifically delves into the derivational study of lexical units on folk medicine in English and Uzbeklanguages, providing a solidfoundation for thiscomparative approach. Furthermore, the influence of historical interactions and linguistic borrowing can be observed in the lexicon of folk healing. As cultures interact, terms related to healing practices can be adopted and adap
