Аннотация

The article analyzes current trends in regional economic integration and their impact on the structure of the international trading system. Three waves of integration processes are examined: from the initial "horizontal" integration of the 1950s-1960s to contemporary trends of strengthening South-South Выпуск журнала №-27 Часть–3_Июнь –2025 71 MODERN EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT ties in the early 21st century. Special attention is paid to analyzing key integration groupings, including the European Union, NAFTA, APEC, as well as new mega- regional projects such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). The transformation of the most-favored-nation principle from a universal rule to an exceptional case under conditions of proliferation of regional trade agreements is considered. The geopolitical dimension of integration processes is analyzed through the example of competition between Chinese and Japanese models of regionalism in the Asia-Pacific region. The conclusion is drawn about the dual nature of interaction between global and regional integration processes.
