Our goal in the development of Pashto: An Elementary Textbookat the Center for Languages for the Central Asian Region (CeLCAR) at Indiana University is to create in struction almaterials that make adifference in the classroom and provide instructors with a widearray of activities to make their classes in teractive. The books offer a the matically organized and in tegrative approach to the Pashto language and Afghan cultur ecombined with current innovations in foreign language teaching. Some of these in novations include the function al approach tog rammar; an emphasis on in tegrated skills development; and the use of vario us authentic materials, especially the videos filmed in the different regions of Afghanistan . Web elieve that a large number of the activities provided in the text book will help stude nts develop strong speaking , listening , reading , and writing skills.
