THE ROLE OF PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS IN THE FORMATION OF SOCIO-CULTURAL AND PRAGMATIC COMPETENCE OF STUDENTS

This article explores the role of phraseological units in developing students' socio- cultural and pragmatic competence within the context of foreign language education. Phraseological units, being culturally marked and context-dependent, serve as authentic linguistic material that bridges language and culture. Drawing on recent research in sociolinguistics and pedagogy, the paper examines methods of integrating idioms and culturally specific expressions into language teaching. Special attention is paid to multilingual and multicultural classrooms, where phraseological awareness enhances students’ ability to interpret, use, and react to language in culturally appropriate ways. The study also highlights practical approaches and tasks aimed at improving learners’ communicative effectiveness through phraseological competence.
