Аннотация

This article examines the significance of English phonetics in language learning and communication. Phonetics, as the study of speech sounds, plays a crucial role in achieving accurate pronunciation, improving listening comprehension, and developing effective communication skills. The paper analyzes the key components of English phonetics, its practical applications, and the challenges learners face in mastering phonetic patterns. Research findings demonstrate that a solid understanding of phonetics significantly enhances language proficiency and intercultural communication. Key words: English phonetics, pronunciation, speech sounds, language learning, communication skills, phonetic transcription. English phonetics, the scientific study of speech sounds in the English language, forms the foundation for proper pronunciation and effective communication. This paper explores the importance of phonetic knowledge in language acquisition, the relationship between phonetics and other linguistic components, and practical strategies for improving phonetic skills. The study reveals that phonetic awareness contributes to better speaking clarity, listening accuracy, and overall language competence. The study reveals that phonetic awareness contributes to better speaking clarity, listening accuracy, and overall language competence. In today's globalized world, clear and accurate English pronunciation has become increasingly important for international communication. Phonetic knowledge helps learners overcome pronunciation barriers and enhances their ability to understand native speech patterns. This research contributes to the understanding of how phonetic training can improve language learning outcomes. Previous research by Peter Ladefoged in “A Course in Phonetics” (2001) emphasizes the scientific basis of speech sound production. David Crystal's “English Phonetics and Phonology” 361 STUDENTLERDI BIRLESTIRIW: XALÍQARALÍQ IZERTLEWLER HÁM PÁNLER BOYINSHA BIRGE ISLESIW 1-XALÍQARALÍQ STUDENTLER KONFERENCIYASÍ. NÓKIS, 2025-JÍL 20-21-MAY (2003) highlights the practical applications of phonetic knowledge in language teaching. These studies demonstrate that systematic phonetic training significantly improves learners' pronunciation accuracy and listening skills. This study employs the following research methods: -Phonetic analysis: Examination of English sound systems and their articulation - Comparative study: Contrast between native and non-native pronunciation patterns - Practical application: Evaluation of phonetic training techniques in classroom settings The research focuses on the effectiveness of various phonetic teaching approaches and their impact on learners' pronunciation improvement. Phonetics provides learners with tools to analyze and reproduce English sounds correctly. Mastery of phonetic principles leads to improved speaking fluency, better listening comprehension, and increased confidence in communication. The study of phonetics is particularly valuable for non- native speakers who need to distinguish between similar English sounds. The study reveals several key findings regarding English phonetics: 1. Sound production. Understanding place and manner of articulation helps learners produce challenging English sounds more accurately. 2. Phonemic awareness. Knowledge of phoneme distinctions improves listening comprehension and pronunciation. 3. Stress and intonation. Mastering English stress patterns enhances communicative effectiveness. Learners commonly face difficulties with distinguishing between similar sounds (/θ/ vs /s/, /v/ vs /w/) Producing unfamiliar sounds not present in their native language Mastering English stress-timed rhythm and intonation patterns Effective Teaching Approaches Research supports the effectiveness of: - Articulatory phonetics instruction - Minimal pair practice - Visual feedback through spectrograms - Connected speech practice According to Ladefoged (2001), understanding the physiological aspects of sound production enables learners to modify their pronunciation more effectively. Crystal (2003) emphasizes the importance of teaching suprasegmental features (stress, rhythm, intonation) alongside individual sounds. Phonetic Components Analysis. English contains 12 pure vowels and 8 diphthongs, presenting challenges for learners. The English consonant system includes sounds unfamiliar to many learners. Stress, rhythm, and intonation patterns significantly affect meaning.
