Аннотация

The article "The Evolution of Chinese Characters" explores the historical development of Chinese writing — one of the oldest writing systems still in use today also explains how Chinese writing began and changed over more than 3,000 years. It emphasizes the importance of Chinese characters as a symbol of national identity and cultural heritage. The article describes six key stages in the evolution of Chinese characters. It begins with the legend of Cang Jie, who is believed to have created the first 540 characters by observing nature. The stages are: 1. Oracle Bone Script: First characters carved on bones for divination. 2. Bronze Inscriptions: More artistic writing on bronze vessels. 3. Small Seal Script: Unified writing system under Emperor Qin. 4. Clerical Script: Faster writing with straight lines in the Han Dynasty. 5. Regular Script: Clear, neat writing used today. 6. Simplified Characters: Fewer strokes, created in the 20th century to raise literacy. Chinese characters have transformed from ancient carvings to a modern, efficient writing system. This evolution shows the adaptability and resilience of Chinese culture. Today, characters remain a living symbol of China’s historical continuity and cultural unity. Keywords: Chinese characters, writing evolution, Oracle Bone Script, simplified characters, cultural identity.
