Аннотация
In recent decades, mental health, now recognized as a global issue, hold critical significance and warrants careful attention not only for the youth but for individuals of all ages. But often the younger generation with higher education constantly struggles to stay mentally healthy due to rapid social, technological, and emotional changes. Addressing mental health requires a comprehensive approach that advances perception, early interference, and accessible support systems for everyone. This paper explores the multifaceted nature of mental health among youngsters, highlights its effects on students and emphasizes the necessities for united efforts to foster a healthier and more resilient society. Key words: mental health, students, stress, adolescence, emotional well-being, financial hardship, academic pressure, loneliness, mental health support, educational institutions. Introduction: It is essential not to overlook the rising prevalence of mental health issues among students. Although universities often offer opportunities for personal development, academic achievement, freedom, and various forms of entertainment, these factors can paradoxically contribute to increased stress, anxiety, and emotional struggles. As the saying goes, every coin has two sides: a student facing psychological vulnerability may experience difficulties not only in their academic journey but also in their personal life. Moreover, it is important to acknowledge that financial hardships and material challenges can significantly impact one’s mental well-being. In addition, it is important to take into account students’ adolescent experiences. During this sensitive period, young individuals often exhibit emotional volatility and low resilience to challenges. Furthermore, responsibilities at the university, separation from family, and feelings of loneliness can exacerbate stress and sadness, ultimately harming their mental well-being. Methodology: This study employs a qualitative research approach, relying on secondary data analysis to explore the mental health challenges faced by students. Throughout the research process, reports from international educational organizations, peer-reviewed academic articles, practical case studies, and up-to-data statistical data were carefully examined. Reliable sources were selected to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the findings. Results & discussion: A 2020 Insight Network survey of students from 10 universities suggests that “1 in 5 students has a current mental health diagnosis” and that “almost half have experienced a serious psychological issue for which they felt they needed professional help” – an increase from 1 in 3 in the same survey conducted in 2018 [1].
