Аннотация
Hydronyms — the names of bodies of water, rivers, lakes, springs, streams, and other water features — represent a unique linguistic layer closely connected with the history, culture, and language of a people. They are valuable not only as place names but also as an integral part of a rich cultural heritage that reflects the spiritual world, way of life, and traditions of a nation, passed down from generation to generation. Through hydronyms, one can gain extensive information about the habitats of our ancient ancestors, their relationship with nature, economic activities, and beliefs. Moreover, hydronyms reflect changes in the social life of a people. Some of them have undergone transformations over time, acquiring new meanings, while others have preserved their millennia-old history. Thus, hydronyms hold significant importance as an inseparable part of national culture and history due to their rich layers of meaning. They represent a priceless spiritual and cultural heritage passed down to us from our ancestors, placing the responsibility on future generations to preserve, study, and further develop them. Therefore, an in-depth study of hydronyms and an analysis of their linguistic and historical aspects are of not only scientific but also spiritual and educational importance. In this article, the author highlights that hydronyms, as a type of toponym, are closely linked to the history of a nation and serve as a linguistic layer and treasury that reflect the unique features of national language, social life, culture, and spirituality. It is also analyzed that, like other geographical names, hydronyms represent a vast cultural and spiritual heritage inherited from our ancestors and serve as invaluable examples of national values.
